The elves

I don't know if you had come across The Elves by Johann Ludwig Tieck.

It's a fascinating but sad story.

I am, of course, attracted to it mainly because it's an adventure of myth and mystic.

"Fantasy again." as my friends (who are always rolling their eyes when i speak of it) call it.

Well, i don't mind their lack of enthusiasm about this stuff, they are the goblins and orcs anyway. (snicker!)

I can always get lessons from these fantasy stories. Small lessons which goes unnoticed in real life.

In The Elves i learned these things:

Secrets are secrets. No matter how tempting it is to tell someone, we should have that reserved energy to always hold our tongue back.

Little mary was so good at this but she is human, so she got tempted in the end.

*Which means, we shouldn't tell our secrets to human beings. Plain and simple.haha.

Appreciate every relationship you have in your life. (Now, this one is serious.Really.)

Elfrida treasured the elf Zerina, and when she left, Elfrida died of sadness.

*Now, who wants to die because of sadness? Not me. So that's why I should treasure the people in my life.

We should not piss people if we don't want to lose them in our life.
Remember, we don't know what we have until it's gone.

* Mary shouldn't have told her husband about Elfrida and Zerina.

Zerina got pissed with Mary, so the elves packed up and left the village.

Mind you, the village suffered for it was no longer beautiful, bountiful and green.

The elven kingdom flourishes the village, but the village people doesn't know this.

* I don't know how to relate this one but the next time you see your garden flourishing with beautiful flowers or your house looks like spring everyday, maybe Zerina and the elven kingdom moved into your turf. ^_~ so don't piss them off.

I am not saying that the characters shouldn't have done what they did, because if they didn't...

There would be no story.
